Mr. Aditya Mohanty is a post-graduate in Sociology (2005) from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Prior to joining as an Assistant Professor of Development Studies (substantive position) at the Central University of South Bihar, Patna in August 2012, he has extensive research experience (2005-11) on varied themes like micro-finance, disabilities sector, decentralization and education s in reputed educational institutions like IIT Kanpur and numerous civil society organizations like PAHAL, New Delhi, NAVH, Lucknow, ODC, Bhubaneswar and Social Watch India, New Delhi. He was also a Visiting Research Scholar at the UrbanLab, Department of Geography, University College London (2011-12) under the Commonwealth Scholarships Scheme, UK.

Apart from that, having qualified the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lectureship in December 2005, he has been successful in clinching fully-funded conference grants to present his research work at national/international Conferences held in premier institutes like JNU, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of Manchester, Zurich, Coimbra and Frankfurt and Humboldt University, Berlin. His key scholarly works as of now include Book Reviews, Review Essays, Commentaries and full-length articles in both national and international journals like International Sociology, Urban Policy and Research, Asian Journal of Social Science and the Economic and Political Weekly.

He is currently a member of numerous professional bodies including the Indian Sociological Society, International Sociological Association and the Regional Studies Association and his key areas of academic interest include political ecology, neo-liberalism, civil society, citizenship and postcolonial urbanism.
