Professor Arun Kumar Sinha joined the Central University of Bihar (CUB) as a Professor of Statistics on 11 Feb. 2014, and was appointed as the Head of the Department of Statistics later. Prior to this assignment the Hon’ble Governor of Bihar cum Chancellor of the Universities of Bihar appointed him as the Vice-Chancellor of Patna University (PU) on 26 April 2013, and he continued on this position until January 31, 2014. He served Patna Science College as its Principal from 23 March 2012 to 31 Dec. 2013, the date of his superannuation form PU service. Prof. Sinha has worked as a Lecturer in Statistics (Nov. 1970 to August1984), a Reader in Statistics (Aug. 1984 to Nov.1986) and Professor of Statistics (Nov. 1986 to Dec. 2013) at Patna University. He has also functioned as the Head of the Department of Statistics, PU as well as the Honorary Director, Population Research Centre, PU from May 2008 to April 2011. Besides, he had been Dean, Faculty of Science and Chief Coordinator of Vocational Courses at PU.
He has served as a Visiting Professor of Statistics at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, USA from June 1991 to May 1994, and at the Centro de Investigacion en Matematicas (CIMAT), Guanajuato, Mexico from June 1994 to May 1995. He was associated with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as a Consultant and helped develop Human Environment Index for conducting international comparison of human environment levels quantitatively.
He is an elected member of International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP, 1985), Belgium and International Statistical Institute (ISI, 2001), the Netherlands and a life member of the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (currently its Vice-President), the Indian Science Congress Association, the Indian Society of Probability and Statistics, the Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics and the Indian Association for the Study of Population. In 2004 the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics had honoured him for his outstanding contributions to Mathematical Sciences. He is a member of the Editorial Group of the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences, (USA), the Journal of National Academy of Mathematics, and the Journal of Mathematics and Systems Sciences (India). Besides, he has served as a Member of Editorial Group of the Environmental and Ecological Statistics (USA) and has been associated with many nationally and internationally reputed Journals of Statistics as a referee.
