CUSB gets DST – FIST Grant worth Rs. 58 lakh
# Department of Biotechnology of CUSB is the first Biotechnology department to receive DST-FIST fund in entire Bihar under Life Science, Level – 1 category. Out of 143 proposals for Level – 1, only 17 institutions have got the grant, CUSB’s Biotechnology department is one of them. # This fund has come to any University in Bihar after a gap of 12 years, and CUSB is the first Central University to get this grant.

The Department of Biotechnology of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has been granted the prestigious 'Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure in universities & higher educational institutions (FIST)-2019' to rebuild the Science & Technology infrastructure in the country by the Research and Development Infrastructure Division, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India. The proposals from relatively small but active post-graduate S&T Department from State & Central Universities and degree awarding academic institutions for improving quality of teaching & research were invited by DST. For Life Sciences Level-1, out of 143 proposals nationwide, only 17 proposals were recommended for support, and the Department of Biotechnology (CUSB) is one of those being recommended after several rigorous steps of screenings and presentation at IISER Pune.
Providing details Prof. Rizwanul Haque, Head of the Department of Biotechnology said that the grant is given based on the performance of faculty members at national level based on their research work. Our team of faculty members are highly skilled for research as per international norms so we became the first Biotechnology department in the state of Bihar to receive this prestigious grant worth Rs. 58 lakh for the development of infrastructure in the Department. The duration of support will be for a period of up to 5 years.
The Scheme will provide optimal infrastructure facilities for post-graduate teaching and research, such as, renovation of existing laboratory space and cold room, modernization of laboratories involved in PG teaching and research, acquisition of essential equipment, up-gradation of existing facilities, networking & computational facilities including software & databases, scientific & technical books, maintenance & refurbishing of existing and new facilities etc. The facilities provided under the Program are intended to support the efforts of the Department as a whole or a number of faculty members in the Department. Proposal towards individual R&D support are not accepted under this Scheme, mentioned Dr. Haque.
