National Webinar on ‘National Education Policy-2020: Features & Prospects' at CUSB

Soon after the approval of NEP-2020 by the Central Govt. Cabinet, a National Webinar on ‘National Education Policy 2020: Features & Prospects’ has been organized by the School of Education, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya on 3rd August 2020. The new education policy, which came almost after three decades (34 years) of last education policy (NPE,1986) has been approved by the cabinet on 29th July 2020 therefore the webinar was organized with a view to get a keen insight of its various aspects, changes and recommendations for the whole education system of India. The webinar was chaired by Prof. H. C. S. Rathore, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya while the keynote speaker of the webinar was Prof. Chand Kiran Saluja, Academic Director, Sanskrit Promotion Foundation, New Delhi and Retd. Professor from CIE, University of Delhi. The other speakers of the webinar were, Prof. C. P. S. Chauhan, Former Head of the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Prof. Arvind Kumar Jha, Head & Dean, School of Education, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, Prof. Rekha Agrawal, Former Head & Dean, School of Education, CUSB, Prof. Atish Parashar, Dean Students’ Welfare and Dean of School of Media, Arts & Aesthetics, CUSB, and Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma, Former DSW and Head of Department of Sociology, CUSB, Gaya. Total 2055 participants registered themselves for the webinar through online mode from the different states of India (33 States/UTs) as well as other countries like Hong Kong. This mega webinar has received instant 8200+ views during face book live streaming and 2400+ comments were received from the participants.
At first, The Webinar Director, Prof. Kaushal Kishore, Head, Department of Teacher Education and Dean, School of Education, welcomed the speakers, guests and participants of the webinar and introduced the objectives of the webinar. The webinar started with the keynote address of renowned educationist Prof. Chand Kiran Saluja who put forward the main philosophy behind the National Education Policy-2020. He said that the process of making this policy is based on democratic values of our Nation. In a way, this is the People’s Education policy. This policy talks about inclusion in a broader sense and constructively addresses our National needs. He highlighted that till now, we had taught language just as literature. But language has its own structure and dimensions and it is fundamental to literacy along with numeracy. So, it should not only be associated to literature only and separately. He also tried to locate and correlate NEP-2020 historically with different educational and institutional development in the field of education in India.
After the address of Prof. Saluja, Prof. Arvind Kr. Jha delivered his views on the features of Higher Education mentioned in NEP-2020. He said that this is a remarkable Policy for the golden future of our National Education. He welcomed the approach of this policy to associate different skills to cognitive skills at different level of learning. Prof. Jha has also emphasised on the effective implementation of the NEP-2020. After him, Prof. Rekha Agrawal addressed the audience over the topic, ‘NEP-2020: Empowering School Education & Teacher Education as a Gateway for Self-reliance’. She welcomed the various recommendations of New Education Policy as flexible exam pattern, universalization of early childhood care education and integration of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular curriculum. After her, Prof. Atish Parashar, put the light on ‘Vocational Education’ outlined in NEP 2020. He emphasised that this policy tries to fill the gap between education system and society by recognising and associating with different skill-based practices which will further enrich and strengthen the Indian tradition. At the same time, he also emphasized that the importance of regional languages will strengthen folk traditions and culture. He mentioned that the idea of credit bank in the policy is going to be a big hit. After him, Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma has talked about Social and Value based Education, enshrined in the spirit of NEP-2020. After him, Prof. C. P. S. Chauhan, Former Head of the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University stated that this NEP-2020 is marking a big structural change in education system for the betterment of new generation education. On every stage, the provision of vocation education is highly appreciable. He also mentioned that the recommendation for the use of mother tongue/ regional language/ local language from primary to higher level is remarkable. He said that Local languages should not be ignored at any cost.
The presidential address was given by Prof. H. C. S. Rathore, hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. He highlighted that this National Education Policy-2020 is an end of Macaulian Era. It’s a visionary policy for our Nation Building and Golden Future of Education. This policy will pave the way of social and academic equality, value orientation and independent society. He stated that the role of teachers for the development of nation is very well recognized by this new education policy. He emphasized that it is the first policy, which is optimally utilizing all the existing resources as clustering of colleges, multi-disciplinary education, new one regulatory authoring and promotion of mother tongue. Originality of thinking, critical thinking and scientific temper will be groomed at the maximum level by the implementation of this new education policy.
