Dept. of Psychology of CUSB organised World Mental Health Week during October 14-16, 2019
The Department of Psychological Sciences of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) organized the World Mental Health Awareness Week during October 14-16, 2019. The theme of this year celebration declared by WHO was “Mental Health promotion & suicide prevention”. The department organized special events during October 14-16, 2019 based on mental health week’s theme “Working Together To Prevent Suicide”.
On 14th October, 2019 (Monday) the Mental Week started with the curtain raising followed by the flash mob on clubbed songs and one act play. The act focussed on the mental health issues and given the message to understand the importance of self. The participants and students of the psychological sciences came together to help in raising awareness about the importance of good mental health. The inaugural day event was coordinated by Dr. Chetna Jaisawal and assisted by Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, Dr. Narsingh Kumar and Dr. Manglesh Kumar Mangalam.
On Day 2 i.e. October 15, while presiding the World Mental Health Awareness Week Prof. H.C.S. Rathore, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) delivered the speech on Mental Health. He said that Mental Health is a big challenge before the world today and somehow the available methods of treatment are not efficient. Despite the presence of Psychologist, Counsellors and Doctors, the rate of Mental Illness is increasing at an alarming rate. I find the traditional Indian way of treatments, especially Ayurveda very effective for treatment of Mental illness. CUSB VC enlightened the audience comprised of students and teachers by elaborating about mental health issues from eastern and ingenious perspective. He also emphasised on the importance of traditional Indian life style and traditional methods to deal with daily life mental health issues. Prof. Rathore also encouraged students to focus on the mental health issues from an Indian perspective and not western perspective.
A workshop on the topic “Behavioural skills for effective living and Stress management” was inaugurated by VC Prof. Rathore in presence of Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, Head, Dept. of Psychological Sciences, Prof. T.B.Singh, Dr. Narsingh Kumar and Dr. Chetna Jaiswal. This workshop was followed by the quiz competition in which nine teams participated. Mr. Peeyush and Mr. Rohit of Department of Psychology won the quiz competition. Then the tug of war game was also organised which was participated by 6 teams.
Likewise on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the painting competition was organized and winners of various competitions were given away awards and certificates by the organisers. It should be noted that World Mental Health Week is observed in more than 100 countries from 10th October to 17th October every year. During the week in the month of October thousands of people, students and universities organise many activities and programmes.
