Apart from his D. Phil., Dr. Singh has completed a Major Research Project on “Literary Heritage of the Primitive Tribes in Central India: A Case Study of the Baigas” awarded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. In this project, Dr. Singh explores various new genres and tribal literary practices in Baiga communities which are even not part of mainstream literature. The said research is the maiden attempt from a literary perspective to document the tribal folklore of a primitive tribe, the Baigas, and it also documents more than one thousand folk pieces in all forms of folklore, i.e. folktales, folksongs, myths, animal lores, dreams, proverbs, riddles, and even some of the mantras that the Baigas chant at various occasions and at the time of utmost crises as snake bites and scorpion stings. Presently, Dr. Singh is engaged in a project on translating the Baiga folklore into English and trying to establish Baiga folklore as a part of the mainstream literary discourse.
