CUSB Asst. Prof. Aditya Mohanty roped in Environment Panel of Govt of Bihar
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has re-constituted the Government of Bihar’s State Environment Impact Assessment Authority. In this completely revamped Expert Panel, the lone Social Scientist, who has been roped in to this elite Panel is, Shri Aditya Mohanty, Sociologist and Faculty Member at the Department of Development Studies, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. He has a career that spans over a decade in numerous NGOs and has a multidisciplinary training in Sociology, Geography and Citizenship Studies from reputed educational institutes like Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, University College London and the University of Aberdeen, UK. His research interests span across diverse themes like Participatory Governance, NGO Management, Urban Politics and Social Entrepreneurship.
For assisting the Authority, the Central Government in consultation with the State Government has constituted a nine-member State Level Expert Appraisal Committee with Zoological Survey of India Gangetic Plains Regional Centre Head (Bihar and Jharkhand), Gopal Sharma as the Chairman. Other prominent academics and industry experts who are members of this Committee are Ramakar Jha of NIT-Patna, Ranjan Kumar of Tata Projects Ltd, Anshumali of ISM- Dhanbad, Ajit Kumar Samaiyar of Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, Bibha Kumari of Magadh Mahila College, Mokhtarul Haque of State Environment and Forest Department, and Member Secretary of Bihar State Pollution Control Board.
The constitution of this body has been announced through a Gazette notification issued by the Central Government. The Mines and Geology Department’s Special Secretary (retired) Shri Arun Prakash has been made a member while the Conservator of Forest-cum-Additional Secretary of the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate change will be its member secretary. The Chairman and Members of the Authority shall hold office for a term of three years from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette and shall meticulously assist and assess various Environment Impact Assessment Proposals that are to be submitted by different industrial and non-industrial bodies, during the next three years.
