Dr. Rizwanul Haque receives grant from Government of India for research on Cancer treatment
Dr. Rizwanul Haque, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Biotechnology of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) received grant to study the remedy of Liver Cancer. The grant is given by the Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for doing high quality research on Cancer. Research project is funded for three years to find certain new and cheap therapy for cancer.
Providing details Dr. Haque said that the project is funded to investigate role of arsenic in the modulation of telomerase gene responsible for cancer. Telomere is part of DNA responsible for maintaining the DNA end and telomerase is responsible for telomere length. Arsenic is well known problem in many parts of the Bihar due to its presence in high concentration. Arsenic and its combination with herbal drugs which might kill cancer cells by exploiting telomerase activity by reducing the growth rate of human liver cancer cells.
An elated and enthusiastic Dr. Haque specifically mentioned that Arsenic has never been tested against liver cancer in human. The successful outcome of the research will pave the way for the development of cheapest therapy for liver cancer and reduction in death rate due to liver cancer. In the research, Dr. Rizwanul Haque will be accompanied by his team including research Scholars, Archana, Neeraj Kumar, Nadra Sadaf and MSc students Ankita Kumari, Lovely Sinha and Ashutosh Kumar Singh.
