Dr. Amiya Priyam’s research work accepted for Patent, 1st ever patent of CUSB published

“The discovery can be a milestone in the treatment of Cancer”, said Dr. Priyam

The Department of Chemistry of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has achieved a remarkable feat in the global academics and research platform. The discovery on nanomaterials is set to be a milestone in the treatment of cancer. The work of Dr. Amiya Priyam, Associate Professor of Dept. of Chemistry and his team has been published as Patent. They have made an invention in the field of nanotechnology and the patent application was filed to the Indian Patent Office, which was accepted and published in ‘Official Journal of the Patent Office’ (http://www.ipindia.nic.in/journal-patents.htm) on 20th December.  Ironically this is the first patent filed by the University since its establishment in 2009, added the PRO. The historic achievement of Dr. Priyam has been appreciated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.C.S. Rathore and entire University fraternity.

Providing details Dr. Priyam said that under his guidance the research scholar Mr. Bhavesh Kumar Dadhich synthesized a new class of nanomaterials 'Hollow Silver Nanoshells', which show unique optical property, 'surface plasmon resonance' in the near-IR region. The work has also notable contributions from the collaborator, Dr. Bhavya Bhushan, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar. In addition to the treatment of cancer, these nanomaterials can also be utilized to harvest solar energy for environmental remediation of dye-wastes produced in textile industry.

It should be further noted that, in recent times, Dr. Priyam’s  research in the field of nanotechnology has been recognised by the leading scientific societies such as American Chemical Society (USA) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and also published in their respective journals. Early this year, Dr. Priyam's research was also presented in the prestigious scientific meeting, ‘Faraday Discussions’ organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).

Dr. Priyam thanked the entire university administration and expressed his gratitude, especially to the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. HCS Rathore for the cooperation and encouragement.. Dr. Priyam also gratefully acknowledged the research grant received from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
