NEP Webinar Series: Use of Technology in Education

The 10 days long webinar series on the completion of one-year of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 came to an end at Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. As a part of the completion of one-year of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CUSB conducted the online webinar series on the guidelines received from UGC (University Grants Commission) during 30th July to 11th August, 2021 based. The webinar series on NEP came to an end with the last lecture on the topic “Use of Technology in Education”, jointly conducted by School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences and Department of Computer Science of the University. The last day webinar on “Use of Technology in Education” was consisted of three eminent experts in their respective field and enlightened the participants through their critical thoughts and ideas. All the experts talked about how all stakeholders of the education system have to be pragmatic. We all should learn new developments in teaching to disseminate the new technology in the education system.

After formal inauguration Prof. Ram Kumar, Dean, SEBES & Convenor of the webinar set the tone of the event, welcomed and introduced the speakers to all the participants. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CUSB Prof. K. N. Singh, inaugurated the webinar and explained National Education Policy, 2020 modules to be implemented. This webinar aimed for educationists, research scholars and students to discuss the “Use of Technology in Education” of NEP and recorded the feedback and suggestions in order to make NEP more effective and productive in upcoming time. More than 200 participants participated in this webinar.  

As the keynote speaker, Prof. Somanath Tripathy, from IIT, Patna talked about the limitations of the traditional education system and highlighted various advantages of NEP, 2020. Dr. Tripathy also highlighted, how modern computing and related devices can make the teaching and learning process more efficient and effective. He also pointed out several issues associated with the use of technology in education that also need to be addressed.

Prof. Subhash Chandra Yadav, Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Technology, Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, discussed about National Education Policy, 2020. He also talked about the use of technology and its integration and online and digital education ensuring equitable use of technology. Dr. Yadav also emphasized to train the trainers for preparing them towards online teaching and learning exercise.

Faculty members of Department of Computer Science of CUSB explained several techniques for using teaching learning exercises they have been using for teaching and learning process even before COVID-19 lockdown period. They explained their experience of incorporating new technology in teaching learning systems that helped M.Sc. Computer Science and M.Tech. (Computer Science) students of Central University of South Bihar familiar with technology. Familiarity in new technology in teaching and learning enhanced their employability and incorporation of content generation suitable for online teaching and learning exercise. 

Prof. Arun Kumar Sinha, Former Vice-chancellor, Patna University, and president of Vigyan Bharti, Bihar commended the webinar saying that the topic of webinar was very timely. Prof. Sinha said that Quality Education is the fourth goal of the 17 UNDP's Sustainable Development Goals and this can be achieved mainly through technology. Prof. Sinha thanked CUSB Vice-Chancellor for organizing such a webinar exactly when the brainstorming is required towards implementation of NEP- 2020.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Head of department of Computer Science Dr. Jainath Yadav, who enumerated recommendations and thanked all speakers, audience and technical and support staff of CUSB.
