World Mental Health Day Celebration at CUSB

There is no health without Mental health said Professor Rajesh Kumar, Head, Dept. of Psychiatry, IGIMS during his special lecture at Central University of South Bihar. Prof. Kumar was speaking on the topic "Psychological First Aid & Mental Health" during the World Mental Health Day celebration organised by the Centre for Psychological Sciences (CPS) of CUSB on Monday, 17th October 2016 at its Patna campus. While speaking on the topic Prof. Kumar, who earlier worked with AIIMS (New Delhi) for 18 years shared his practical experiences as a physiatrist with the audience mainly comprised for faculty members, students and staff of the University. He tried to draw the attention the topic with various instances and related facts about the Psychological First Aid (PFA), which is primarily neglected by the affected people as well as their families. Usually PFA is limited to adults only, and people hardly care for children’s grief and they are mostly ignored, i.e in case of any death in family people generally consoles the adults and don’t care for children which is wrong. Further, he said that for effective and complete treatment through PFA, psychological, social and family support are very important. How crisis effect people? Who need more PFA? When PFA is given? were the major questions raised by Prof. Kumar revolving around the topic and efficiently answered one-by-one in order to make them understand to audience.

Earlier, CPS assistant professor Dr. Narsingh Kumar in his inaugural speech thanked and welcomed the Chief Guest Prof. Kumar for taking out the time for lecture on PFA. He also welcomed Prof. Arun Kumar Sinha, Dean, School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, CUSB was also present on the dais along with Dr. Rajesh Kumar. In his brief speech, Dr. Narsingh spoke on the theme and shared his personal experiences related to Psychology. During the celebrations, a presentation competition by PPT (power point presentation) was organized on the topic “Mental Health & Psycho-social approach to the management of mental health problems”. Students of graduate and post-graduate levels from CUSB and other educational institutions in and around Patna participated. The winner of the competition was Saumil Sahay, a student of media department from CUSB, while Jaya Shukla, MA Psychology of CUSB secured second position. Aayush Anand and Aparna Verma from Psychology department of CUSB shared the third position. Certificates and cash prizes were given to first, second and third position holders. A street play and a documentary produced by the Zeeshan Yasir, a student of media department was screened during the celebrations. Although the World Mental Health Day is celebrated on 10th October worldwide, but this year CUSB has to push the event by one week due to Dusshera, said Dr. Narsingh.
