Dr. Rohit Ranjan Shahi gets Rs. 41 Lakh grant from BARC to study the magnetic properties of alloys

Dr. Rohit Ranjan Shahi, an assistant professor at the Department of Physics, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has been awarded a Major Research Grant of Rs 41 Lakhs from Board Of Research In Nuclear Sciences (BARC) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), of Government of India. The three-year duration project is entitled "Investigations of Structural & Magnetic Properties of High Entropy Alloys Using Neutron Diffraction". Dr. Shahi has done extensive work on the magnetic properties of multi-component alloys over the last seven years at the University with his Ph.D. students completing their thesis on Magnetic High Entropy alloys. Dr. Shahi dedicated this achievement to hard work of his Ph.D. students Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Mrs. Priyanka Kumari, and Mr. Shashikant Mohapatra.
Providing details Dr. Shahi said that under this project, research will be focused on the structural and magnetic behaviour of High Entropy Alloys. To facilitate this research, the grant includes funding for major laboratory equipment, and fellowship for a research student. Under this collaborative project, the design and development of these novel materials will be executed at CUSB. The advanced structural and magnetic investigations using neutron diffraction will be performed in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. The project collaborators are Dr. M.D. Mukadam Scientist from the Solid-State Physics Division BARC and Dr. Poulami S Chakraborty Scientist from the Materials Science Division at BARC. At the end of the project Multi-functional High entropy material will be deliverable to BARC for application in advanced synchrotrons and will also be used as magnetic fluid for next generation power reactors.
