Prof. Narendra Kumar Rana

Prof. Narendra Kumar Rana assumed office as the 8th Registrar of the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya. He has come on deputation from the Department of Geography, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University where he has been a Professor since 2021. Prior to his joining BHU, he had served for 20 years in the Department of Geography, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. (2001-2020) where he was appointed as professor in 2018 and took over the charge of office as the Head of the Department.  

Prof. Rana did Master’s in Geography in 1997 and MPhil in 2001 from the Dept. of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. He was conferred the PhD degree by DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur in 2005. He also holds PG Diploma in Remote Sensing & GIS with specialization in Human Resource Settlement Analysis from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun. The niche area of research in which he has excelled include Fluvial Geomorphology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Hazards and Disaster Risk Reduction. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in the realm of geographical research, the National Association of Geographers India (NAGI) felicitated him with the Young Geographers Award in 2001. Prof. Rana has supervised 14 doctoral research on a wide range of topics. A prolific writer, he has authored seven books and has published 54 research papers. In his career as a keen researcher, he has completed 6 research projects which have been funded by various Indian agencies of repute.

He has been closely associated as a member with various geographical societies while engaging himself with frontier areas of research such as river restoration, river basin management and risk and vulnerability analysis. Prof. Rana’s multifaceted administrative experience and exposure to the university administrative system include positions such as Member of Executive Council, Academic Council, Head of the Department, Member School Boards & Board of Studies, Centre Superintendent (Examination & Evaluation), Chairman of Examination Committee, Asstt. Dean, Students’ Welfare, Chairman, Residential Accommodation & Allotment Committee, Chairman of Academic Journal Expert Committee, Assistant Proctor, Chairperson of Games in the University Sports Council and Program Officer NSS.
