The overall aim of National Service Scheme (NSS) is to give an extra dimension to the higher education system and orient the student youth to community service while studying in educational institution. Being an educated youth, most of you are expected to take the reins of administration in future, however, due to lack of the awareness to the problems of the village/slum and/or community, many a times, you will not be able to help the society in a way which is required for proper shaping up the need of common people and/or community. Thus, for arousing the social conscience within you, and to provide an opportunity to work with the people in the villages/slums and to expose you to the realities of life, NSS is working with full dedication and passion. Moreover, it would also help in bringing about a change in your social perception. You as a volunteer of National Service Scheme (NSS), your objective would be to
- Understand the community in which you work
- Understand yourself in relation to your community;
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve you in problem solving process;
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
- Utilize your knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
- Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities;
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;
