The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Research and Development Cell (R&D Cell) of CUSB jointly organized a guest lecture on the topic 'Unlocking Secrets of the Universe at CERN, Why Should I Care?' The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Archana Sharma, Senior Scientist, CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. The event was held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh and the visionary leadership of Prof. Venkatesh Singh, President of IIC. The session was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Swati Gupta and Dr. N.L. Devi, while Dr. Lakhwinder Singh delivered the vote of thanks. The event was further supported by student coordinators Dilkhush Kumar and Kumari Pragya Mishra.
Dr. Archana Sharma, a distinguished expert in particle physics, captivated the audience with an engaging discourse on CERN’s groundbreaking contributions to scientific discovery and innovation. She elaborated on CERN’s role in advancing research in particle physics and sustainable development goals (SDGs), emphasizing its mission to push the frontiers of human knowledge. A key highlight of her talk was the discovery of the Higgs boson, often referred to as the “God Particle.” She explained its fundamental nature, its rapid decay in high-energy radiation environments, and its significance in understanding the fundamental building blocks of the universe. Sharing her inspiring journey from Jhansi to CERN, Dr. Sharma encouraged young minds to dream big, break barriers, and embrace scientific inquiry as a means to contribute meaningfully to global advancements. She passionately spoke about her dream project of developing an indigenous centre for Hadron Therapy for cancer treatment in India. This project aligns with the Viksit Bharat goal of 2047, envisioning India’s leadership in cutting-edge medical technology and scientific research.
The talk left a lasting impact on students and faculty alike, fostering curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific exploration. Dr. Sharma’s insights not only expanded understanding but also ignited a sense of responsibility toward scientific and technological advancements for societal progress. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students eagerly engaged with Dr. Sharma, posing insightful queries on particle physics, career opportunities at CERN, and the future of Indian scientific research on a global platform. The Institution Innovation Council and Research & Development Cell at CUSB continue to foster a culture of innovation and intellectual growth, bringing global scientific leaders to inspire the next generation of researchers.
