Anonza Priyadarshini, a Law research scholar received the prestigious BPRD Fellowship
Anonza Priyadarshini, a research scholar under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar, Head and Dean ,School of Law and Governance, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya, has been selected for the prestigious Government of India Fellowship for Doctoral Work in Criminology and Police Science and Related Subjects, awarded by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This year, only two scholars across India have been awarded this highly competitive fellowship. Priyadarshini’s doctoral research, titled “Governing the Future of Crime Prevention: Legal and Jurisprudential Dimensions of Predictive Policing in India”, is being pursued under the supervision of Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dean and Head, School of Law and Governance, CUSB. The research explores the urgent need for legal and ethical frameworks for predictive policing in India, particularly considering recent security threats such as the Pahalgam terror attack. The study aims to ensure that predictive policing is deployed within constitutional boundaries, balancing public safety with individual rights and privacy. Anonza acknowledged the guidance of his supervisor, Professor Ashok Kumar, for this achievement.
The fellowship funding will support Anonza's ongoing research, facilitating empirical fieldwork, comparative analysis, and engagement with national and international policing models. As part of her study, Anonza plans to examine global best practices in AI-integrated policing, with a focus on institutions such as Scotland Yard (UK), FBI (USA), Israel Police, and the Singapore Police Force. These models, known for leveraging technology in crime forecasting while ensuring legal oversight, will inform a tailored framework suitable for the Indian context. The BPRD, functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been instrumental in advancing police modernization and research-driven reforms in India. The award of this fellowship reflects the Government’s commitment to encouraging academic contributions to national law enforcement policy and governance.
