Educating farmers about innovative practices in farming can be helpful to achieve Viksit Bharat goal, says Kirti Vardhan Singh, MoS, Environment at CUSB

In order to fulfil the goal of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) there is a need to focus our attention on the farming sector since a major chunk of India’s economy is based on agriculture. Also, to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) the role of Agro-based industries is quite significant. Hence, to meet these goals the active involvement of the citizens especially farmers and other people associated with cultivation is quite necessary. To achieve these goals the higher educational institutions can play an important role by educating the farmers and associated people about the innovative practices. These statements were given by the Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State, Environment, Forest and Climate Change during the inauguration of the Animal House and Integrated Farming System at Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on Friday, May 16, 2025. Praising the 300-acres eco-friendly campus of CUSB, the minister said that CUSB is a research focused NAAC A++ graded University having the adequate infrastructure and essential resources to carry out the further investigation related to innovative practices for farming. As I came to know that CUSB is already following the innovative practices to maximize the yield followed in its own agriculture field with minimum damage to the environment, such techniques can be brought outside the University boundaries to nearby villages. I appreciate the University’s commitment towards the community and it is a good sign towards the achievement of the goal of Viksit Bharat and making contributions to the SDGs, which is the need of the hour for sustainability of the environment and earth, mentioned the Environment Minister.

Earlier, CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh inaugurated the Hon’ble Minister for his visit to the University and evaluating its efforts towards ensuring the minimum utilization of natural resources including the zero-water discharge campus, solar-powered streetlights, development of green belt with plantation of over 10,000 plants, agriculture field to yield the crops and vegetables with naturally developed manure without any chemical, rearing of livestock, etc. The Vice-Chancellor who himself is a geographer said that the university is highly concerned for the adverse effects of climate change therefore there are many other future plans in the pipeline to develop CUSB premises as a greenbelt and complete eco-friendly campus of the Magadh zone. The University is fully committed towards its motto ‘campus for community’ and all such innovative practices are being taken to the people of the neighbouring villages and areas of Magadh region.
