Guest Lecture on Changing Family and Marriage in the Global Era by Prof. Yogendra Prasad Tripathi, May 27, 2025
In today's modern Indian society, parent-child relationships are changing very rapidly. Although, facing the challenges of the present, children are working very hard in terms of their studies, employment (job), salary package, property, but when it comes to settling down by getting married, they usually disagree with their parents' decision and in such a situation, parents feel that they are out of their control. The above statement was given by Prof. Yogendra Prasad Tripathi, Chairman, Department of Sociology, K. S. Saket PG College, Ayodhya in a lecture organized by the Department of Sociological Studies, Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on the topic 'Changing Family and Marriage in the Global Era'.
He said that after studying the current scenario of the society, it is concluded that marriage is not the first priority for children, their freedom, their life choices, privacy are more priority than anything else. In such a situation, parents do not seem happy to face so many new challenges in the family, they also do not have a proper idea of how to address such newly emerging complex situations in the family and society. The relationships of the new generation are changing and entering a different phase of life and family which is very complex and difficult to handle because these boys and girls and their education are making them more dynamic, independent and their ideals are also changing rapidly. He compared the ideals and behavior of the new generation girls and boys by comparing Jagat Janani Mata Sita, especially during the difficult time of her life when she was kept in Sri Lanka by Ravana. He talked about the challenges and benefits of unconventional relationships emerging in the family relations of parents and children in modern times, which can be a suitable subject for further research in social sciences. Prof Tripathi, while addressing the research scholars in particular, said that doing research on contemporary topics is very challenging. After the inauguration of the program, the head of the Department of Sociological Studies, Prof. M. Vijay Kumar Sharma introduced the speaker. The program was attended by the professors of the department, namely Prof. Anil Kumar Singh Jha, Dr. Samapika Mohapatra, Dr. Sanat Kumar Sharma, Dr. Jitendra Ram, Dr. Harish Narayan Pandey, Dr. Priya Ranjan, Dr. Parijat Pradhan, Dr. Aditya Mohanty and Dr. A.P.
